Who We Are
Black Levers is a Black-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit platform reimagining U.S. foreign policy through the lived experiences, leadership, and collective power of Black communities in the United States and across the Diaspora. Founded and directed by expert practitioners and rooted in justice, we work to ensure that foreign policy uplifts democracy, human rights, and equity both at home and around the world.

Our Mission
At Black Levers, we believe that justice and the dignity of all people should guide America’s global engagement. We strive to bridge communities and decision-makers, champion inclusive governance, and shape narratives that reinforce democratic participation, civil and human rights, and opportunity for all—neither ignoring nor separating the U.S. domestic and global struggle for equity.

What We Do

• Civic and Policy Engagement: We convene Black diaspora, grassroots leaders, and public policy influencers, empowering them with civic education and advocacy tools to help shape U.S. policy and elevate democratic participation.

• Empowering Communities: Black Levers invests in training, resources, and partnerships so marginalized voices and frontline organizations can effectively advance human rights, defend against discrimination, and expand access to opportunity.

• Public Education and Storytelling: Through journalism, multimedia, and digital strategy, we inform the public of global and domestic issues threatening rights and democracy. We challenge disinformation, promote transparency, and advance narratives that link racial justice, economic freedom, and civil liberties to meaningful policy change.

• Cross-Continental Bridge-Building: We foster connections between U.S. communities and partners around the world, notably through facilitating dialogue between African and Black American civil society and supporting migration justice, inclusive economics, and social solidarity.

• Advancing Democracy and Justice: By hosting convenings, amplifying new voices, and equipping networks, Black Levers works to safeguard fair elections, promote due process, and build support for policies that protect workers, defend reproductive and economic rights, and uphold the rule of law.

Black Levers advances a vision of U.S. policy—including foreign policy—that places the dignity, safety, and full participation of Black people and all marginalized groups at its core. We are committed to ensuring every person’s opportunity to determine their future, defend their rights, and shape a more just and prosperous global society.
